Aricept improves the function of nerve cells in the brain. It works by preventing the breakdown of a chemical called acetylcholine. People with dementia usually have lower levels of this chemical, which is important for the processes of memory, thinking, and reasoning. It is used to treat mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer's illness.
Directions
Take the Aricept regular before going to bed. During first month the dose must be 5 mg once a day than can increment to 10 mg daily. Avoid swallowing the tablet whole, allow it to dissolve in your mouth without chewing.
Precautions
Before taking Aricept, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have chronic diseases, urination problems, asthma, stomach, epilepsy, or if you take NSAIDs. It's obligatory to inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Contraindications
Don't use it if you have allergic reaction to donepezil and to derivatives of piperidine.
Possible side effect
Allergy, swelling, headache, giddiness, coughing up blood, difficult urination, seizure.
Drug interaction
Prohibitive substance of cytochrome, inducers (ethanol). Unpredictably effect. Risk of adverse reactions grows when Aricept is used together with drugs and NSAIDs.
Missed dose
Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Overdose can cause an enlarged prostate, chronic diseases,giddiness, asthma, stomach,pregnancy or a seizure disorder such as epilepsy. Inform your doctor immediately.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C). Store away from moisture and light.
