General information
Clonidine lowers blood pressure by decreasing the levels of certain chemicals in your blood. This allows your blood vessels to relax and your heart to beat more slowly and easily. Clonidine transdermal skin patches are used to treat hypertension and can be used both orally and spread on your skin.
Directions
Take the medicine twice a day, exactly as prescribed by your doctor, as the dosage depends on teh patient's hypertension. You will wear the patch for 7 days and then remove it and put on a new one. Apply the new patch to a different skin area on your arm or torso.
Precautions
Clonidine can impair your thinking or reactions. Don't drink alcohol.
Contraindications
Avoid using the drug if you have an allergic reaction to the components,sinuses problems, bradicardia or atrioventricular block (degree II and III), myocardio dystrophy, Reino syndrome, heaviness or kidney disease.
Possible side effect
Get emergency medical help if you have an allergy, break heartbeat, tumour, disorder, delusions, fever, pallid skin or urinating less than usual.
Drug interaction
Before using Clonidine transdermal, tell your doctor if you regularly use other medicines that make you sleepy, such as barbiturates, narcotic pain relievers and alcohol. Be careful with the drugs which lower heart rate.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Call emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may include headache, fuzzy vision, droning in the ears, confusion, belly pain, giddiness or slow heart rate.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between between15-30 C (59-86 F). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
