Prinivil
Active Ingredient: Lisinopril

Prinivil is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It helps to prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. It is also used to treat heart failure and to improve survival after a heart attack.

General information
Prinivil belongs to a class of medications called ACE inhibitors. It is used to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. It works by relaxing blood vessels and helping the heart to pump blood that carries oxygen to the different parts of the body more efficiently. It is also used immediately after a heart attack in order to reduce the risk of having another heart attack.
Directions
Take Prinivil exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The recommended adult dose ranges from 2.5 mg to 40 mg daily, depending on the condition being treated. For children, the dosage is based on weight. It is taken in one daily dose with or without food. People who take other medications that lower blood pressure (e.g., diuretics) or people who have kidney disease may need lower doses. Take it at the same time each day. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well.

Be sure to drink enough fluids to prevent dehydration. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking Prinivil. This drug may make you dizzy. Do not drive or perform tasks that require alertness. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can further lower your blood pressure and may increase some of the side effects. Older adults may be more sensitive to the effects of this product.
